extreme right middle
The girl with the cap and the piece of hair hanging down resembles Capt. Jack?
No, above her to the right. Maybe on your computer it’s covered up by the “next photo” overlay.
That side of the photo is entirely cut off when viewing with Firefox 14.0.1. I saved the image to the desktop and opened it to see the whole picture. Thanks!
The tooltip hover answer doesn’t mention the most interesting thing about #18. In the left side of the photo, towards the back, in between the trees, you can see a man who is almost certainly the famous “Tank Man” of Tiananmen Square, heading towards the tanks. Note that he’s dressed the same and is carrying the same packages.
Some of them don’t live up to the name, really. But a couple don’t do it for me because I still can’t see what they’re talking about, like #6, #10. I see something that could possibly be what I’m supposed to see in #6, but it could just as easily be a tree. And #10 just seems like it’s too small to see the detail they want you to see.
I wish they’d have changed the picture on hover (or maybe click would have been better), isolating the hidden object. And I wish there were a way to see larger versions.
BTW, did anyone actually have trouble seeing #5, #7, #11, or #13? Those are the ones I saw just by glancing at the picture. (#2, #9, and #14 were fairly easy, but not instantaneous. I’m sure #9 was easier for women.)
Also, randwill, is there a reason you haven’t upgraded? The latest Firefox is 16.0.2. Are later versions causing you problems of some sort? If so, you may be better off with the ESR version. Using that channel will hold you until Februrary 12, 2013, and will have all the latest security patches.
EDIT: Also, right-click > view image will work without having to download the image, if this sort of thing happens to you often.
What? I don’t understand how #10 is too small – the face behind the window is like half the height of the image.
The caption is misleading–don’t look at the car window. The object is actually large, but very faint.
They miss what’s REALLY cool about #18: the fact that it’s a new view of the incredibly famous Tiananmen Square Tank Man as the column of tanks approaches.
Thanks for the heads-up about Firefox. I just updated. I’m sure the latest version has advantages over the older version I was using, but the right side of that picture is still cut off.
I can still barely make it out, and can’t really tell that it’s scary…
BigT, see the little cloud (not the long thin one, the more oval one, just off the center of the photograph)? It’s not a cloud. It’s the top row of someone’s teeth, with his mouth open.
I’d hardly call some of them a “hidden payoff”. Photo #1 for example is taken at a birds of prey show and the bird was probably the subject of the photo. But they are quite cool.
Photo 7, I saw almost immediately that there were too many legs, but it took me a bit to realize the correct interpretation.
And I’m less than impressed by the ones that are clearly the result of manipulation, like #13 (which was also quite obvious).
I don’t think there is any manipulation of #13. The edge of the ridge that the four people are sitting on blends into the distant ground where the walking person is. It’s outdoors, so the camera’s aperture is closed way down, providing a lot of depth of field so both the main subjects and the distant figure are clear.
I am not at all convinced that there is really a giraffe in #6. I can see something near the center that might be the flank of a partially hidden giraffe, but it might equally well be just a tangle of branches. The picture (which I tried blowing up to a larger size) is far too blurry to tell.
All of those images are teeny tiny and low quality, you can barely see anything at all let alone what they’re talking about. There’s no excuse for that nonsense these days.
To everyone who wants to make the pics bigger: Just hold down CTRL and press the plus sign (+) to embiggen (CTRL and minus (-) to shrink). Works in IE and Firefox.
And am I the only one who’s creeped the hell out by the owl in that freakin’ first one?!
Some of them are really very nice like #7, #19. I just failed to figure out what’s hidden in these pics without reading the answer.
