Coolest "Alice in Wonderland" ever?

It’s there. Just search on Kristine DeBell.

Yep, gotta go with Svankmajer’s. See it if you can.

My second-favorite Alice is the much-maligned American McGee’s Alice.

My first favorite is Lewis Carroll’s book.

My third favorite is – wait, there is no third favorite. I’ve hated every movie adaptation I’ve ever seen.

Another vote for Svankmajer, with an honorable mention to the creepy Alice recreations in Dreamchild (starring Ian Holm as Carroll).

Give credit where credit is due, folks. Disney’s version is really pretty good, all things considered. Besides, Walt worked with psychedelic guru Aldous Huxley on the movie, and Huxley even wrote one of the potential scripts. I wanna see THAT movie.

1Paul Krassner (former Merry Prankster and current High Times editor) suggests that Huxley might have turned Disney on, based on one or two rather bizarre things that Disney had to say around that time. I kinda doubt this, but it’s pretty funny to imagine.

I saw Alice in Wonderland XXX – I thought this thread might be about that one.

Ooops.

::shrugs::

Ah! So it is…thanks!

…soooo, I can take it, NO ONE has seen this?

Ooh. Alice at the Palace, a stage production (at the Palace theater) starring Meryl Streep. This is actually a topic I’ve long wanted to post a thread on. Has anybody else ever seen this?

It was wonderful. It was a musical version, and it was hipper than shit.

Oops, sorry, Uke, I have not seen your version either. It sounds extremely watchable, by my lights.

Haven’t seen it, Ike, but plan on looking for it.

Was it based on “Alice in Underpants”?

I heard they were making a new Alice movie based on the computer game “American McGee’s Alice” (sort of a pseudo-sequel; very dark and gothic, great game) with Mila Jovanavich or whatever the hell her name is. Then I heard they were doing it CGI-style instead, but haven’t heard anything since. Anyone know what I’m talking about?

Since I love both books and so familiar with them, I can’t respect any dramatized version of Alice that mixes elements of the two books into one.

It’s the same way I cringe over any dramatization of the life of Jesus that blends the four gospel account into one (with the exception of the artsy versions like Godspell which isn’t purporting to show narrative accuracy but has a more artistic aim).

So far, I’m waiting for a dramatization of Alice that will either: 1) respect the integrity of each book; or 2) take Alice off in an artistic direction that transcends the narrative of the books (and I don’t think a porn version is going to do it for me).

Peace.
