Feel terrible for Messi. But 0 goals for Argentina in about 400 minutes in international cup finals looks bad for the legacy.
CR7…if he had been an Argentinian I would bet any of my body parts on his winning at least one. He is a physical force. He is basically all Portugual has and plays his heart out. There is really no one dominant player today.
Zinedene Zidane was the one player who could will his team to win through individual effort. When he wasnt injured he was the difference maker for France in 1998, 2000 and 2006. He did have issues with dirty play but he delivered in key situations.
Messi retiring from International Football.
If true, his international failures will hang even more around his neck. And to think, if one or two chances had gone differently.
Hope he changes his mind. Its still two years until Russia.
Damn.
Yeah, Higuain finishes 2 1v1s and Argentina has 2 championships in 3 years and there’s absolutely no debate about Messi’s legacy.
I have a feeling he’ll rethink this. I hope he does.
I will not blame Messi for this loss. The game should never have gone to PKs.
He is still the best player in the world.
They should have won each of the Finals they lost in normal time.
To echo what someone else said, the extra periods were among the most compelling football I’ve ever watched, even with no goals scored. Both teams attacking all out, both keepers having to come up huge, and the players so clearly utterly giving it all.
