Can an officer of the law get a medical marajuana card?
This came up at work (federal office).
No, according to the colleague, while wearing his badge, weapon, and assorted law enforcement gear. He then told us none of the rest of us could get one, either, if we wanted to keep our jobs.
MJ is still ilegal under federal law.
It is not necessarily getting approved for a card, but if caught and convicted, such criminal offense may forbid a person from carrying a firearm, did not check federal firearms law specifically though.
Local police officers aren’t tasked with enforcing federal law.
While they can, state specific on enforcement, but federal case law permits it, I was discussing whether an officer “convicted” of a federal MJ charge can still carry a weapon.
Actually, some are depending on what types of grants their agency receives.
Also, officers are required to obey all laws and can be discharged for not doing so.
