Cops vs White Guys or Hispanic Guys?

We’ve all seen the sometimes brutal videos of white cop vs black guy. But from the statistics that I could find, tho not complete or very accurate, about 1000 people per year are killed by police. Of those between 25 and 35% are black and the rest are mainly either hispanic or white. Black people comprise about 13% of the population so are over represented by about 2 1/2 times. My question is where are all the videos of cops vs white guy or cops vs hispanic guy? Does nobody happen to have a cell phone when this is happening? What am I missing here?

Who wants to watch a boring video of a cop telling a white guy why he’s been stopped, giving a warning, then wishing him a nice day?

OP is not asking about video of people getting warnings. He is asking about the video where whites or hispanics are actually killed by police. I submit that the video exists but its just not as sensational as white cops killing blacks.

If body cam counts, there’s the video of Daniel Shaver from a couple years back.

Here’s a video of a white guy who was stopped by the cops, had a gun in sight, threatened to shoot the cops, ignored police instructions to put his hands on the wheel and to step out the car, put his hand on the gun, continued to ignore the cops, threatens them again, and then closes his car door and just drives away:

All they while, they treated him with respect and pleaded with him to follow their instructions.

Maybe most of the videos where the cops actually shoot the white person are so obviously justified that they don’t get much airtime? Because if that had been a black man in that video and he got shot, we’d have lots of people defending the police here.

Now that I’m back at a computer, here’s a link to the Daniel Shaver bodycam video (warning to sensitive viewers):

It’s awful.

In our immediate area we have had two high profile incidents:

Cop goes to a report of a break in. Suspect walks up to the cop with a rock in his hand. Hits cop on head, takes cop’s gun, shoots cop and a bystander.

His photo and story were used relentlessly by the BacktheBlue crowd around here for the last year, and justification why shooting black people is justified.

The suspect wasn’t black. At least he wasn’t black all his life. He was only black after he killed a cop.

Another incident recently, a copy had his cruiser stolen by an armed robber.. Robber was eventually killed when he tried to get out of the car with a police rifle after being surrounded by a battery of police vehicles.

Thing is, he had a gun. Out in view. It seems like the police are quick to shoot black men who do not have a gun in view. Philando Castile had a gun and he told the officer he had a gun, but it was never in view.

I am not sure what happens when police actually see a black man holding a gun. There was a comparison video of a black man with a rifle slung over his shoulder who was aggressively confronted by Washoe County deputies, but as far as I know he never had it in his hands.

By contrast, we saw the Bundy standoff in Nevada where there were scores of white people pointing rifles at enforcement officers and no one was arrested. Somewhere on youtube there is video of and old white man walking around on the shoulder with a rifle, ranting and being obnoxious – not a shot fired by police.

It is almost like they are cowards. The time to shoot is when the suspect is unarmed. If they have a gun in hand (and they are white), hey, we need to deescalate before the shooting starts.

No doubt cops mistreat white guys and brown guys also, and of course more white dudes are killed by police than black dudes. But mostly, those shootings are entirely justified.

True most police shootings of black men are also entirely justified also, but there are too many cases where white cops killed a unarmed black man or harassed them without justification. Yes, now we are getting to the point where the cops may be fired and maybe even convicted.

Look at that cop-cam video of two white cops harassing a black Army officer- in uniform.

Can you see that happening to a white dude?

Yeah, wanna see how differently actively resisting White people get treated? Watch the hundreds of YouTube videos documenting ‘’‘Sovereign Citizens’’’ doing it.

Just watch video from 6 January eh.

From statistics many more white guys are killed by police than black guys. Are you saying that when white guys get killed its so obviously justified that its not worth showing over and over again on TV but when black guys are killed there is always the question of justification? Or is it question of ratings for cable news?

Most police shootings are justified, no matter the race.

A few are not, and those few are disproportionally (but not uniquely) among blacks. BLM will seize upon those.

Are you saying there are a ton of white people being murdered by police but it’s all suppressed by a successful conspiracy to hide the truth of police violence against white people.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Adam Toledo yet.

Not exactly , I’m just wondering why all those videos are not on TV rather than searching around for them on the web.

There just doesn’t seem to be an issue where white cops treat white suspects like sub-humans. When it does happen, it makes the news:

That’s kind of like when white cops treat black suspects like sub-humans and it also makes the news.

Yup. So, OP, why do you think there are so many more news stories about Cops vs. Black guys?

Interesting article in the new republic discussing police brutality against whites, and the correlations between poverty and race.

I agree with what you’re saying here, but “seize upon” seems loaded language. Highlighting this problem is the whole point of the organization, you may as well say ASPCA “seize upon” incidents of animal cruelty.

While BLM is intrinsically about the racial disparity, some of the discussion e.g. on “defund the police” does include highlighting cases of police brutality against whites.
