Copyright

A few of us “across the lake” want to start an Australian and New Zealand Doper website similar to the “People of the Straight Dope” site.

I am wondering how I should be dealing with the copyright (I’ll probably be the one setting up the site). I have sent an email to the SD asking for clarification of my rights and responsibilities, but have not yet received a reply.

So, do I have to expressly ask for permission to call the site something like “SDMB Downunder” , or is it good enough to merely display the SD’s own copyright information with an added note that my site is not affiliated with them?

If I do need to ask permission, how formal a process is it? Is an email good enough?

I want to keep it all above board.

Thanks in advance.

Just e-mail Tubadiva@aol.com. She’ll forward it to the relevant authorities.

Thanks Coldfire. I’ve just done what you suggested. Feel free to close this thread if you like.

Did he mention that in keeping with the Spirit of the Outback, all those on the site will be photographed naked and drunk, and will have to provide links to their favourite drug paraphenalia stores and do-it-yourself explosives sites?

He didn’t?

Okay, then I won’t either.

[sub]hehehe, explain THAT away, 'Dog![/sub]

Sorry Redboss, cobber. I thought that was a given.

Oh, I forgot. It’s Americans we’re dealing with here.

[sub]You’ll keep, redboss, ya bugger. I’m trying to do the “nice young man” bit (quite a leap) and whadda I get? I get Victorian leather queens cramping my style. Sheesh![/sub]
