Corn Flakes in India

After my wife and I got married, we spent 3 months riding the rails through out India.

The food in India was “unfamiliar” at best, but at almost every train station that served breakfast, we found corn flakes (and milk). Even though we were staying at a particular place for a few days, we usually made it a point to make our way back to the train station for breakfast even though we weren’t leaving that day. There’s nothing like a familiar food when you are staying in a foreign country for an extended period of time.

What is the story of corn flakes in India? Was it introduced by the British? If so, the Raj left decades ago, but corn flakes seem to be still going strong in India.

Sorry, but it just doesn’t like a very “Indian” type food.

Well, when did you go to India? Because the Kellogg India website says:
1994: Kellogg state of the art cereal plant opens in Taloja near Mumbai, India.
1995: Kellogg plant opens near Guangzhou, China. Kellogg India launches Cornflakes, Wheat Flakes & Basmati flakes in April 1995

I don’t remember getting cornflakes in India, but I definitely remember the milk.
It was greasy and tasted different every morning.
At the time , I guessed it was water buffalo milk.

It may have been reconstituted condensed milk.
