Coronavirus accelerating

An expert claims there are 50,000 new cases daily. I don’t doubt the Chinese government is underreporting the actual figures, but want to see his methodology and reasoning for such staggering numbers:

I’ll let you know when giant blue beakers start exploding.

I believe with SARS, after the Chinese government took it seriously the R0 value dropped to 0.2, which would’ve caused the disease to die off.

No idea, but here he says he thinks the caseload is doubling every 5 days.

The advantages of being a hermit living on a dry-lake in the middle of nowhere are starting to reveal themselves.

But one day, an RV with a lone woman and two little kids is going to show up. At first you’ll warn them off. But then you notice the sad eyes on the kids and you relent…

The real silver lining of this is its effect on carbon emissions. There’ve been tens of thousands of airline flights canceled already and tens of thousands more in the next couple months. Tens or hundreds of millions of workers in China have taken an unplanned week off and also not engaging in social activities or even driving much during that time. However, that reduction will likely pale in comparison to that from the coming recession caused by those workers not working for that week. Some factories in other countries have already had to curtail operation because they can’t get parts from China.
