Coronavirus general discussion and chit-chat

In April/May it still wasn’t that easy to find a vaccine in the Bay Area.

50% of San Francisco County was vaccinated as of 5/1/2021.

I believe teachers in CA were eligible pretty early on.

She’s at fault for three reasons.

  1. Not vaccinated
  2. Working while sick
  3. Taking off her mask to project her voice to the room. (Really, that’s exactly the times you’re supposed ti be wearing a mask.)

She is (was?) a private school teacher. I’m not sure they were eligible then. Public school teachers were eligible starting around March, which is when my wife got it.

22 of 24 staff in this school were fully vaccinated. This teacher was not.

Ah, I see.

I think the point of the article is about the risk to kids, and how schools opening is such an issue. The point isn’t that this teacher screwed up, it’s that there will be screw-ups. Some parent will send a kid to school when they are sick, and they have an ill-fitting mask. Some teacher will be reckless. Some staff member won’t be able to take another sick day, and will decide to tough it out. Whatever. Those things will happen.

Kids under 12 need vaccines now. Schools shouldn’t be opening, but it’s also unacceptable for them to not open. At this point, adults have pretty much made their beds and will have to lie in them. But kids need to go to school, and they need to be safer doing it.

This will be interesting to follow.

Just found a message from a cold-caller trying to entice me into scheduling a cruise vacation . I’m really sorry I missed it now, because I would loved to have sussed out if it was just a scam. Which oddly, would make me feel a little better about it. I mean an “honest scam” is just targeted towards ripping off the gullible and mentally impaired with no intent towards actually loading anyone onto a plague ship. An invitation to go on an ocean cruise right now…well…if it’s a scam it seems poorly timed, if it’s not even more so.

The message unfortunately had the slight ring of the maybe genuine to it, not your normal ‘you’ve won a free cruise’ bullshit. Could be cruise lines are starting to get desperate.

Our housekeeper goes on a cruise every year. A few weeks ago, she was contacted by a cruise line she has used in the past who offered her an all-inclusive week-long cruise for something like 200 bucks. Not being a cruise person myself, I asked and learned that all-inclusive includes meals, drinks and massages. You still need to tip like normal.

That price sounds fairly desperate to me.

I’ve had legit low key sales calls recently from cruise lines I’ve used in the past.

I’m hoping for the sake of food quality that’s a loss for the cruise line.

Considering how cruise ships have kept having trouble with Covid cases popping up aboard ship–no matter how many precautions the companies take–if it were me, I would still turn it down. If I want to run the risk of contracting Covid, I can do so for a lot less than $200.

Quarantine. Quaran-time. KORAN TIME! I knew it! The gubment’s a buncha crypto-mooslims! That’s why Biden is so cozy with the Taliban!

No, I didn’t actually read that anywhere; but I wouldn’t be surprised if some Covid denier did say something similar.

Welp, you’ve started the rumor. We should be hearing it on Tucker Carlson soon. (I don’t mean “we,” obviously. I mean “they.”)

Correct thread? I don’t know where this goes.

“NEW YORK (AP) — A New Jersey woman calling herself the AntiVaxMomma on Instagram sold several hundred fake COVID-19 vaccination cards at $200 a pop to New York City-area jab dodgers, including people working in hospitals and nursing homes, prosecutors said Tuesday.
For an extra $250, a second scammer would then enter a bogus card buyer’s name into a New York state vaccination database, which feeds systems used to verify vaccine status at places they’re required, such as concerts and sporting events, prosecutors said.
Jasmine Clifford, of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, was charged Tuesday with offering a false instrument, criminal possession of a forged instrument and conspiracy. Authorities say she sold about 250 fake vaccine cards in recent months.
Clifford’s alleged co-conspirator, Nadayza Barkley, of Bellport, Long Island, did not enter a plea an an arraignment Tuesday morning in Manhattan criminal court on charges of offering a false instrument and conspiracy.
Prosecutors say Barkley entered at least 10 names into the state’s vaccine database while working at a Patchogue medical clinic and received payments for her work from Clifford through the services Zelle and CashApp.”

Woah… I think we might be entering serious prison time cyber-criming territory here.

The article goes on to talk about the amount that people payed to participate, making sure to point out that the actual card and vaccine ARE FUCKING FREE!

I’m guessing they are desperate to get people cruising again, so are basically resorting to bribes. She kicked in another hundred to get an outside room and is thrilled by all the money she is saving.

She went out of her way to get J&J, one and done. The only reason she did that is because she was in danger of losing more than half of her houses, including ours. She said she was glad she got jabbed because the cruise line was demanding vaccination cards. She’s all sorts of happy to pay to float around on a plague ship for a week.

I’m not going to fire her over this but I am going to make her miss a week, just to be sure she didn’t bring anything home with her.

I see that the CDC is keeping up their streak of issuing no-travel advisories less than a week before a major travel holiday, pleading with the unvaccinated not to travel for Labor day. Which they’ll blithely ignore just as hard as all the holidays last year.

I don’t understand, though. The CDC somehow has the power to issue country-wide bans against evictions because it’s in the interest of public health not to evict people during a raging pandemic, so why can’t they simply ban people who aren’t vaccinated from flying/taking trains/buses in the name of public health too?
