Corporate to classroom programs

Ok, as this seems more of a GQ than an opinion thing to me, I’m going to put it here.

I am very interested in finding a work to classroom program that would allow me to move from my current position as a corporate auditor to a teaching position. I know I could go back to school and get a teaching certificate. I am not opposed to that, and I’m sure I will have classes I need to take. What I don’t have is a lot of time at the moment to go back to school. I travel for work, which cuts into weekday evenings, and I can’t afford to go to school without working.

What I have is a degree in history from a liberal arts college, and (close to)6 years of work experience, ranging from a customer servive rep, to management, to auditing.

I have looked at Teach for America and the Mississippi Teacher Corps, but those seemed very much geared toward new graduates.

Does anyone know of any states/counties that have such programs for those of us who have been in the work force for a few years, and have learned that they want to teach? Or, can you point me to websites that might have the information that I need?

After early tomorrow morning, I won’t be able to check this for a week, but I will be checking in as soon as I can after my return to the States.

From what I’ve learned from having teachers as parents for my entire life, you don’t need a teaching certificate to teach in private schools. This is generally a rule for public schools, enacted by the local state board of education. As for states, pick one and look on the internet, I’ll bet you find at least 5-10 private schools in each state, with probably over 100 in NY or California.
