This is inspired partly by the tales of gasoline price gouging and the appalling story of fraudulent donation-seeking spam, but mostly by Rickjay’s astonishing predictions that despite being horrifically cynical will no doubt turn out as heartbreakingly accurate.
The evil men who conceived and carried out this hideous act of mass murder will shortly find themselves fleeing the most overwhelming and merciless hunt in recorded memory, and this is as it should be. But we must reserve a measure of hatred, scorn, and condemnation for the soulless parasites who would attempt to exploit this tragedy for profit and personal gain.
This is not to denigrate all free enterprise. If some engineering firm comes up with some uniquely clever solution to the problem of preventing passenger-jet hijackings, more power to them. Just as we can recognize legitimate entrepreneurial efforts, we will know an unforgivable act of exploitation and craven manipulation when we see it. This thread is for those heartless bastards who seek to attach themselves, fungus-like, to the broad side of national heartbreak.
No doubt this will be an ongoing list, as RickJay’s eloquent diatribe makes clear. Add the transgressors here, and we as a community can refuse to support them. And in the event of egregiously evil examples, we can discuss whether a legal solution to baldly manipulative profiteering should be contemplated, and how it should be pursued.
