Correct pronounciation of the word "Arizona".

Aaaarrrr-izona? There’s a lame pirate joke in there somewhere.

Also in Aar-Kansas… (sorry trupa! I do that with some words, too. Although, now I have to figure out which naughty bit I’m going to refer to as my “thig.” I love it.)

Hey, maybe this is the thread where I can ask this question about the pronunciation of “Los Angeles.” I have some recordings from the radio in the '50s, where the news anchor in New York goes to the reporter in LA, except they both pronounce it with a soft, almost-absent ‘g’ sound, like “angaluss.” I’ve also heard it pronounced “angaleez” with a hard ‘g’ in some old movies and TV clips, too.

Was the name said differently years ago, and has the pronunciation changed over time to become the now-common “an-je-less”? (We won’t even bring up the proper Spanish pronunciation!)
