Corrupted PKzip file

I have a twenty-four disk backup of family photos. The original files no longer exist. (I knew it was going to happen, that’s why I did the backup…)

Now, both WinZip and PKzip are telling me that the last disk of the set is corrupted. Therefore, the programs are unable to extract the files.

Any techies with a fix? The Wife really wants her pictures back.

I am running Win95 on a 200mhz Pentium system.

Thanks in advance.

pkzipfix.exe might be worth a try but back up your files as applying this will possibly truncate the file it is applied to if damaged.

You may also want to try another floppy drive as some can read weak or incipiently failing sectors others cannot.

3. PKZIPFIX. What is this program and how do I use it?

PKZIPFIX is a recovery utility that is included with your copy of PKZIP for DOS and incorporated into PKZIP for Windows and PKZIP Command Line. It will attempt to repair a damaged .ZIP file and create a file called PKFIXED.ZIP. You can then attempt to extract from the PKFIXED.ZIP file.

To run the DOS version of PKZIPFIX, enter the directory where the damaged .ZIP file is located and type:

pkzipfix filename.zip
You can then attempt to extract from the PKFIXED.ZIP file that PKZIPFIX will create.

When PKZIP for Windows or PKZIP Command Line encounter a damaged .ZIP file, it will automatically detect the damage and will query whether PKZIPFIX is to be run. The resulting file will be called PKFIXED.ZIP. You can then attempt to extract from the PKFIXED.ZIP file.
