Corruption in College Basketball - DoJ to have major presser at 12pm (EST) today.

That was a sloppy and hurried blurb on my part (blue “collar” commission - jesus christ) and my apologies to all. No, Mr. Emmert did not specifically instruct the committee to avoid examining the concept of amateurism but he did stack the commission with people who are unlikely to challenge it as the real root of the problem. Once again, the problem is not shoe companies breaking NCAA rules and endangering athletes’ eligibility – the problem is the stupid rules. Somebody (sorry, rushed again) recently wrote a piece comparing amateurism with Prohibition and the parallels are pretty valid.

If you wanted a fair and realistic look at the situation you would have had Jay Bilas or Sonny Vaccaro on the commission.

Blue collar. :smack: Fuck.

Fired.

A followup:

Amazing all these corrupt assistant coaches–but no corrupt head coaches.

Not really so amazing. A lot of “assistant coaches” in college seem to be full-time recruiters who never get near a basketball court or football field. I notice my old alma mater has six assistant coaches and an “associate head coach.” They finished 8-24 this year.
