Cost of Individually Metered Heat in New York City

Anybody have any idea approximately what the average cost of individually metered heat per month in the winter in a New York City apartment would be? It’s a small two bedroom, probably around 700 square feet. I’m not sure if it’s gas or electric, so if you know of cost estimates for either, please respond. Thanks.

I think there are probably too many variables for you to get really useful answers to your question here, including age/size/type of construction of the building, age of the heating system, condition and efficiency thereof, and even things like number and type of windows in the apartment (are there storm windows?). Throw in the normal variability in temperatures from one winter to another as well.

Is this a place you are thinking of renting? Sometimes you can get information like this from the landlord, or a previous tenant. They should at least be able to tell you what type of fuel is used.
