Once in a while, I’ll pick up a copy of car magazine. It’s a UK mag about, well, cars! I enjoy seeing what everyone else is driving that we can’t drive here. Throughout the magazine are ads for insurance and it got me to wondering how expensive it is to own a car in England and the rest of the UK. For example, here I have to pay ad valorem tax, license plate fee, and insurance (my county does not have annual inspections). For three vehicles (mine, my wife’s and my daughter’s) I pay about $1700/yr for the above fees. Add gasoline and it’s another $800-1000. What’s it like across the pond?
