The important thing is to persuade Natalie Portman to star in the movie as the young woman he pines for, mutely of course, in memory of happier days. He’ll contest for her affections with Alan Rickman, but in the end she’ll throw them both over for Bonnie Raitt.
There’s no crying in baseball!
Uh, you forgot “Guy of Gisborne steals his scenes with Robin.”
Actually, it’s been too long since I’ve seen this movie for me to remember if they have any scenes together or not. Still, we’re talking about Michael Wincott here. We can just as well say, “Michael Wincott steals all his scenes from everyone in every movie he’s ever been in ever.”
I hated Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, but there doesn’t exist a movie that is bad enough that it wouldn’t be worth watching if Michael Wincott were in it.
Good to see your Natalie Portman obsession continues apace.
Yes, in the beginning when Robin catches them chasing after the young boy.
“Might I have the pleasure of your name…before I have you run through?”
I love this movie.
Costner was also good in A Perfect World, where his typical emotionally constipated style worked to his advantage.
As evidenced by the various movies cited, Costner isn’t really consistently bad, he just has a limited range. That and he was given too much freedom after the big box office returns of Dances With Wolves, which allowed him to make a couple of overly indulgent films.
I thought he was a bit stiff in that last movie…
Alan Rickman stole the film from everyone.
You were supposed to object to Bonnie Raitt, damn it!
Geez, if the Tolkien crew won’t see my setups, what’s the point?
No love for Baggar Vance?
Alan Rickman steals ALL films from everyone.
Even Will Scarlet (Slater) stole all his scenes from Robin.
As TWDuke notes, the manager character in A League of Their Own is pretty good. He’s not the leading role, but he’s a big part of the movie’s success.
How about The Bronx is Burning? Manager Billy Martin is one of three main characters (with Reggie Jackson and George Steinbrenner), and the Martin character is the best of the three.
“Why a spoon, cousin? Why not an axe?”
Played by Alan Rickman, Morgan Freeman, and Sean Connery.
Given the rather middling ambition of the flick as a whole…when you’ve got those 3, you can’t help but get some stolen scenes…
Also, these 3, specifically, are the main villain, the movie’s major addition to the story, and the King, who was seriously stunt-cast and popped up as a surprise at the end. There’d be something very wrong if they didn’t steal their respective scenes.
He was good in Mr Brooks - of course he was playing a psycho, but still
I also liked him in that Graceland movie…
I haven’t actually seen every baseball and golf movie, I must confess. And yes, Hanks was good in LOTO
I can’t remember anything Marion did in that movie aside from scream out “ROBIN!”
To Sir Guy: “He’s stealing my horses, you fool!”
