I placed this here cause Im looking for factual information, but it is dealing with entertainment, so if it belongs in CS please move. Thanks.
I am trying to find out what it would cost to air/show a syndicated program.
For example, say I wanted to air/show or otherwise distribute earlier Stargate SG1 episodes, what sort of pricing would be involved to the network/stations that air it? (IM looking for a general popular program, not necessarily specific to Stargate alone).
Ive tried to google for it, but since Im not entirely sure where to get the information or even what it might be called, Im having a little difficulty.
The question you haven’t answered here is how you are going to air/show it. Are you talking about recording it off the air and showing it at your next family reunion, or are you talking about broadcasting it over a local TV station? The costs would be radically different.
Assuming you’re talking about airing for public consumption, you would have to work out a deal with the syndicator of the program, and the costs would still vary widely, depending on such factors as the popularity of the show, the size of your potential audience, the number of times you plan to show each episode, etc.
There’s no one price for a syndicated program. The general rule is that the syndication rights are bid for. Either one station in a city will bid for the exclusive rights to air the program in that city, or one cable station will bid for the exclusive rights for certain seasons. The larger the market or coverage, the larger the costs. It may cost tens of thousands per episode in New York City and just hundreds in Albany.
And just as the costs for any one show differ place to place and station by station, the costs for different shows will vary just as much.
It might be possible to find specific information for a specific show by contacting the actual distributor but generally speaking there’s no answer.
