Yasuhiro Sonoda, a Japanese MP, has been trying to persuade the nation that treated water from the area around Fukushima is safe for use.
He was challenged by journalists to drink a glass of treated water taken from puddles beneath the reactors, and duly did so.
Fair play to him for standing behind his claims, but I bet he’ll be a nervous chappie for the next few years wondering what’s bubbling away inside him. :eek:
There a video on the BBC site… definately a tremor in those hands as he’s pouring!
Hey, Fraga bathed in Palomares and he’s still around 45 years later (I think his dentures have dentures by now, but that’s because he’s a 1922 vintage)… he was trying to convince people that the bombs from an American bomber which had fallen into the water there hadn’t contaminated the place at all (the bomber and its refueler crashed in flight during a training exercise; yep, apparently both pilots needed more training).
Why was it when I read the OP, the first thing I thought of was this exchange between Mayor Adam West (from Family Guy) and his doctor?
[QUOTE=Mayor West]
Adam West: If toxic waste gave the Griffins superpowers, it can do the same for me
<cut to scene of Mayor West rolling around in toxic waste>
…
Doctor: Mayor West, you have Lymphoma.
Adam West: Oh My.
Doctor: Probably from rolling around in that toxic waste. What in God’s name were you trying to prove?
Adam West: I was trying to gain super powers.
Doctor: Well that’s just silly.
Adam West: Silly, yes…idiotic…yes
