Could a hybrid be created of a crappie and a largemouth bass?
Pretty sure you just described Jazz.
What are the names to choose from using traditional methods?
Crapass, or Bappie
I hope nobody succeeds.
IANA ichthyologist, but I’d think no. The closest relation phylogenetically is at the “order” level ( Perciformes). Most fish hybrids are the same genus at least.
Me, neither. But I’ve been fishing freshwater lakes for over 50 years, and I’ve never seen anything resembling such a cross.
Fertilization has been achieved in some experiments and eggs hatched, but the hatchlings did not survive. Other studies were completely unsuccessful. So basically, no.
Why in the world would you want to do such a thing to the perfect game fish!?
No. Mixing crappie and bass would be crass.
