Yellow object + green light = invisibility? This seems suspect even for Silver Age comic book science, let alone actual spectroscopic principles. Although I guess it could hint at a justification for the “invisible yellow” effect mentioned earlier. So presumably the Winkies of Oz would be undetectable ninja assassins among Green Lanterns.
On the other hand, I seem to recall times where genuine scientific facts would occasionally sneak into the GL comic (no doubt under cover of green light…) One tactic I remember Hal using during space combat was accelerating quickly enough to take advantage of the Doppler effect, blue-shifting the wavelength of visible light from yellow to green. I thought firstly that this was a pretty clever idea, and secondly I wondered why the heck he didn’t use it a lot more often.
Almost. If I recall correctly, Hal was fighting another GL, and flew away from him at high speeds, firing the beam - thus RED-shifting his green beam to yellow, and penetrating the other Lantern’s defenses.
Oh, please. You KNOW that had to be Barry Allen’s idea. Can’t you imagine Barry, during a slow moment on monitor duty in the JLA satellite, jottting down two hundred thousand ways for Hal to use the ring more creatively or effectively?
Sadly, Hal only read the first two.
(I also imagine Barry giving a similar list to Superman. Something like, “Use telescopic x-ray vision before busting into anyplace to rescue anybody. If you see either kryptonite or lead compartments, take a billionth of a second to dash over to the Fortress and put on a radiation suit.”)
