Could I be charged with murder if I attacked and attempted to kill a pillow?

A true story. I knew a prisoner who had been a burglar. He wanted to avoid any occupants in the houses he was robbing so he used to drive around at night and throw rocks through windows. If the lights came on, he knew somebody was home and would drive away. But if the lights stayed off, he figured the house was empty and he would go in.

So one night he’s “working” and he’s broken the window and the house is still quiet. He thinks everything’s good and goes inside. But unknown to him, the owner of this house had figured out what was going on and decided to lie in wait for him. When he got inside, the owner then turns on the lights and points a gun at him. The owner makes him lie face-down on the floor and holds the gun to his head while he calls the police. The police arrive to arrest him but, in the middle of the arrest, the owner of the house suddenly clutches his chest and falls over dead of a heart attack.

The DA was apparently in a really bad mood that week and the burglar was convicted of felony homicide on the basis that his crime had caused the stress that caused the fatal heart attack.
