Could painting an object white allow it to reflect lasers?

As Stranger points out, the concept of rotating and/or mirror-coating ballistic missiles as an anti-laser defense is common. While they may not be totally successful, what such things can do is increase the energy requirements of the laser significantly, making such an antimissile laser less practical. And upping the laser energy at the source increases the requirements for ensuring that the targeting mirror is perfect (otherwise the speck of dust that you would like on your target system could cause your entire laser ABM system to fail on firing).

In terms of science fiction, laser weapon defense systems have included sand, water, gas and reflective surfaces.
