Could someone explain the appeal of Space Ghost and spinoffs?

God, I loved this show. Episodes of SGC2C were the first videos I ever downloaded off the internet.

Remember the one where Conan O’Brian was the guest and the episode concludes with TEN full minutes of Space ghost watching an ant crawling? Or the one with Bjork where she clearly has no idea what the show is about and she ends up married to Space ghost?

Hey, I watched the original Space Ghost in 1966. Pre Star Trek, it was the happening SF for a youngster like me back then. I followed it obsessively for the next 41 episodes until it was cancelled. I had a hell of a crush on Jan.

Never really got into the spin-offs, though.

I mentioned 70’s/80’s nostalgia so this made me double-take a second but then I remembered that, yeah, even in the early 80’s we had old Underdog/Tennessee Tuxedo/Bullwinkle/Peabody & Sherman episodes playing weekdays at noon on the local UHF station. Never occurred to me at the time that the show was already nearly 20 years old or that I’d eventually be nostalgic for something from eight years before I was born.

Yeah, my main exposure to the character was in the 80’s when they ran reruns of the old cartoon on USA’s Cartoon Express.

Never really paid attention to the Coast to Coast spinoff. If you can really call it a spinoff. Reimagining?

But other shows like Aqua Teens and Harvey Birdman and Sealab 2021 and Venture Brothers were hilarious and brilliant. And Space Ghost paved the way for them.

Harvey Birdman. I’ve only ever seen a handful of episodes, but one of my favorite quotes ever is from one of them. “They raise emus there. For clerical work.”
