Could that have been the prodome of a migraine?

Just curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar. I am a long-time migraine sufferer, but pretty lucky as these things go; I infrequently get the really bad ones, and often I get an aura but nothing else. My symptoms have been pretty varied, but usually not too debilitating.

I’m a few years past menopause now, but during peri-menopause, at night I would sometimes get very unpleasantly “twitchy” feeling - almost like the feeling of restless legs, but all over my body. I took an occasional .5 mg of Klonapin (you could get it over the counter in Indonesia in those days) and that always helped. The sensations pretty much stopped after menopause so I haven’t given it much thought.

But: Two days ago I got that twitchy sensation in the morning (not at night) and to my distress it didn’t go away for about 36 hours. It was annoying to say the least. But it’s gone now - and in its place I have a big fat migraine. So I"m thinking the two are connected.

Anyone else ever experience anything like this?

Me, personally? No. However, I don’t think there’s a brain-based neurological event out there that couldn’t have some connection to migraines.

I wouldn’t call it a twitchy feeling. More like the shaky, ill feeling I would usually get if nauseous, except I’m not. I usually get visual disturbances along with it. It’s awful. My migraines usually happen in clusters, and this is something that happens during the interim periods between full-blown migraines. It is definitely a prodrome symptom for me.

I will say, it is a relief to hear someone else say they sometimes get the aura without the headache. It always makes me feel like I’m losing my mind.

I haven’t answered yet because I don’t have much to say that’s helpful… but I do know the twitchy feeling, and it is somehow hormonally mediated for me. I also have hormonally mediated migraines but I can’t say the twitching and the migraines have ever gone hand-in-hand.

I have definitely had that experience, although it’s usually the opposite. Since you had a migraine right afterwards, I would definitely assume they were connected.

It really sucks, doesn’t it? But count yourself lucky–you didn’t have it for over two years straight like I did going off of Klonapin. Sure, you kinda get used to it, but it’s still hell.

I have what I think of as “restless skin syndrome” and I also have migraines, but I don’t think they’re connected. The twitchiness usually happens in the evenings, and if it gets bad enough I have to take an Ambien so I can get to sleep. Migraines are usually heralded by visual symptoms: blind spots, flashes of light, and/or auras. I’ve never had both at the same time, and I suspect the twitches would be trumped by the migraine if they did coincide.

I’m going to go with ‘not related’, unless it happens again. My armchair neurologist diagnosis would be mild dehydration which could cause both the twitching and the migraine. I believe low magnesium can cause both of them as well.

Intriguing. I’ll make an extra effort to stay hydrated - there’s no way it can hurt, and it might help. Thanks for that (and thanks to other respondents too - it’s nice to know I’m not the only twitchy type).
