Could you build a new Home Depot from the inventory of a Home Depot?

This is the kind of thread that makes the SDMB so fucking great.

Are all Home Despots a standard size?

No. There is a multi-level Home Depot in Manhattan that is clearly not the same size or shape as one you would find in the suburbs.

That’s in a preexisting building though. I would imagine that starting from scratch, they use a couple standard sizes.

Only if the art was bigger than the Home Depot that the materials came from. I’m talking square footage.

It’s like the famous anagram: “Banach-Tarski Paradox” becomes “Banach-Tarski Paradox Banach-Tarski Paradox”.

They don’t sell the Roof Top Units, commercial fire alarm systems and glass.

These were the first three that came to mind.

I think you could probably build a 3000 sq ft stick-built house. Maybe.

I worked for Home Depot for a number of years and can say they can’t even come close to building a store. Many of the most basic items needed for maintenance of a home depot box they do not carry. Bulbs for high bay lighting comes to mind. Motion activated faucets. Commercial doors. Nuts and bolts that meet spec for H-shelving.
I was baffled anytime something broke we had the people qualified to fix it and couldn’t because we did not carry what we needed.

Through Home Depots conglomerate of businesses it was easy enough to get everything required to build a new box. Contractors building home depot stores did not supply materials. I think Home Depot no longer owns Home Depot Supply so I am not sure if they can provide everything anymore without buying from outside companies.

Most times I go to the Home Despot they don’t have everything on hand I need to finish whatever project I’m doing…

True, but you **were ** building a rocketship.

Not a rocketship.

This had an entirely different method of propulsion…
