Could you pass the Canadian Citizenship test?

Native born US Citizen - 17 out of 20, that’s an 85. I’ve been to Canada.

80%; missed 1, 11, 18 & 19.

80%. Missed 3, 5, 11, 18. I really should learn more about the country’s history, though. It would make everything so much clearer.

95%. Some were guesses (first PM, number of ridings), some were half-remembered gut instincts (Peace Tower, year of confederation (I knew it was in the 1800s)) . Others were pretty easy.

I missed Question 2.

100%. Guess I can stay.

95%. Missed the first PM, though I should have known. Canadian born and raised abroad (and/or American immigrant to Canada). I don’t know what I’d get on the US test: does anyone have a current link? I couldn’t get to the 2008 one.

I got 18/20, American with no particular knowledge of Canada.

I missed 2 and 7.

5, 11, 16, 17, and 18, 19 were guesses but some of them informed guesses. For example I was pretty sure Queen Elizabeth II was the Canadian Head of State, but in the back of my head I wasn’t really sure how the Governor-General factored in. I know the GG is the “representative” of the monarch, and that Queen Elizabeth is styled Queen of Canada, but I wasn’t really sure how it all worked on an official level.

I guessed 308 electoral districts because I’ve seen Canadian election night on C-SPAN and while I didn’t remember the number, I knew 308 sounded about right.

With 19 I guessed 5 years because that seemed the most logical, I didn’t think any major democracies had 10 year periods in between major elections, “no time limit” or “every two years.”

19/20 - I missed question 4.

Oh, and braaaains.

I got number 2 wrong. I thought the government gave people land…

I missed my first year of school because I did not have a birth certificate (just a baptismal certificate from Montreal). I guess I was hatched or something.

Here ya go. Select a state to be from, and how many questions you want (5 to 50).

Thanks. 100% on the American one, though I did have to guess. I liked question 13:

[QUOTE=US Citizenship Practice Test]
13) Name the U.S. war between the North and the South.
A. the War of the middle states
B. the North-South War
C. War of the states

  • D. the War between the States
    Your answer was correct.

    I guess we’re not calling it the “Civil War” any longer.

You weren’t that wrong. If I remember right it was like $10 for 160 acres but, no, not strictly free.

mihonik, study hard. The test has been revised and isn`t as easy as it was when this thread started.

Generally, Im heartened by how well the Americans did on the test considering the stereotype that yall are knowledgeable up to your borders and then suddenly turn ignorant. That`s clearly not true about American dopers.

My uncle told a story about working as a border guard near Blaine, Washington. He said an American couple pulled up in a motorhome and said,

We hear that Montreal is nice. How do you get there from here?

[QUOTE=uncle Jim]
Keep going until you come to highway 1, then turn right.

Funny thing is that I took it twice, and one time the answer was “The Civil War.”

18 of 20 just by guessing on most of them. I guess I am a better Canadian then I thought.
