We have no rule against bringing offline things onto the Boards. We have rules against bringing arguments from other boards onto this Board.
But in the spirit of this thread, let me warn you that from the official Rules:
Do not post anything that you would be ashamed to have someone else read or might be embarassed by 5 years from now. What you post here stays here. If you pit your SO in anger one day, and the next day have a change of heart, your post will more than likely stay.
</mod>
Now that I’m out of the Mod brackets, let me suggest something:
Try this if you feel you must Pit your SO. Write your Pit rant in Notepad and save it overnight. If you still feel the same way in 24 hours, then go ahead and post it - otherwise trash it.
the only thing a former SO and i were diametrically opposed on was abortion. i was pro; he most definitely was not. we finally agreed to disagree and the subject was permanently closed after that.
so far, after six years, the divemaster and i seem to be pretty much on the same page about just about everything. i’m waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I thought I remembered a situation where two people who were either friends or relatives IRL brought their bitchery onto the boards and were warned about it. My memory may be faulty, though.
Your memory is not faulty–see linky for a two year old thread in which a poster who is no longer among us complains about not being able to pit her husband–also a poster who is no longer among us. Said thread also contains links to threads started by those posters, in which they were told to knock it off.
So, I guess it isn’t an official rule, just not a good idea.
I could pit my wife, but I wouldn’t, because I love her very much. She’s not a perfect human being, in lots of ways; she has flaws, she has some wrong-headed ideas… (unlike me, since I’m very nearly perfect in almost every way.) But our disagreements are between us, and usually don’t get in the way; I certainly wouldn’t make them public. We have been married for going on 37 years.
We have friends, married for almost the same length of time, who are constantly criticizing each other in public. It’s embarrassing. It makes us uneasy to be around them. So, different strokes etc.
