Sat on a tuffet
1643
Eating her curds and whey
1644
Along came a spider …
1645
He sat down beside her
1646
And frightened Miss Muffet away.

Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot.
1648

This is actually one of my favorite lines in American literature. Love the rhyme, and the definitive last syllable!

Nope, not looking it up.
My favorite thing about the Grinch story is the description of the Who’s ‘feast on roast beast’. As a child I thought ‘roast beast’ must be very good.
1650

And he, he himself, the Grinch, carved the roast beast!
1651
He puzzled and puzzled till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
1652
Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store.
Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.
1653
Pop guns! And bicycles! Roller skates! Drums!
Checkerboards! Tricycles! Popcorn! And plums!
1654
1655
Then he growled, with his Grinch fingers nervously drumming,
“I must find some way to keep Christmas from coming!”
