It depends entirely on the website. For instance, aaroads.com (#593) doesn’t allow hotlinking, so I try and avoid that one (but often forget…) Can’t speak for #595 though, that one’s working fine for me.
That one didn’t work either…I would take that class.
On Google images, just click on a pic, then click on “View Image” so it isolates the pic, then right click and then click on “Copy image location” and then on the SDMB reply box, click on “Insert Link” (blue dot with the paper clip icon) and then right click and paste the saved link in the box and click “ok”. Worked for me every time AFAICT.
Better? Same? Worse?
ETA: Frankly, I don’t get what everyone’s so huffy about; half these links will be completely dead in a few years anyway.

It’s kind of a communal thread. If we can’t see the images you’re linking to, it’s doing nothing for us. And it does seem to be a frequent problem.
