It looks like I will most likely be driving into Chicago. So I ask this: Is there anybody living along the I-94 corridor between Detroit and Chicago who wants to carpool?

I still have a souvenier menu from the hawaiian place we went to a few years ago. I swear there was a sign on the outside of the establishment that states, “We do NOT sell beer” Lo and behold, UncleBeer shows up, and beer starts a pouring.

Unless I can get a carpool ride, I doubt I can make this trip, though it’s not for lack of interest. I’ll keep checking this post and hoping for the best. I just saw that the airlines are in a price war, too, so that may assist me.

Just so’s y’all know, the emails are flying, and we’re seeing what we can do to get rubes down to Chicago as well.
Billdo and I were wondering if any of you would be so kind as to recommend cheap hotels located near any of the various planned Dopefest events.
We aren’t flying via O’Hare, so that hotel wouldn’t make much sense, even though it looks like staying there would be a blast!

The Porkfest/Fingerfood brunch is coming along swimmingly. 11:00 am on Sunday at Haus auf Jarbaby.
I’ll give everyone little maps and such or I can try to explain it in words ahead of time.
This is a fingerfood brunch…and I’m trying to make a large, diverse menu that will appeal to all food restrictive types (vegan, vegetarian, no carb, hi carb, raw food enthusiasts and jugglers)

UncleBeer, even if you ran 'em dry and HAD to drink domestic, that time still sticks out in my head. I had only known you thru your nick, and the first chi-dopefest I go to, here is a sign taunting the beer gods, and you came thru.

OK, I’ve got the official word that I can take the “…backseat, in the middle, with my feet on the hump–I called it” seat in the lno car. Now to figure out if I can get vacation and the lodging. Should be seeing everyone soon.

Re: ChiDope correspondence/email list - there ain’t one. I am, however, keeping a list of (possible) attendees, so if you email me, you’ll get added to that list, which I’ll publish here again at some point. All the planning (little that there is) is being done here in the thread.

Pucette, there really are no cheap hotels close to the actual fest. As mentioned in the OP, some folks are staying at the Radisson, which is only a couple of blocks from Timothy O’Toole’s, but it ain’t cheap by any stretch of the imagination. You might want to check out the Days Inn - there’s one at Clark and Diversey and one on Clark just south of Lincoln. Neither is probably cheap, just may be cheaper than a hotel in downtown proper. There aren’t any cheap decent hotels anywhere near where we will be, which is part of the reason I suggested that budget-conscious dopers try to stay with a local if possible.
FTR, the doper list I’m maintaining (maybes and definites) now has 65 dopers on it.
I stayed at the Days Inn at Clark & Diversy. Actually for the very first Chidope way back in November 1999. It’s a pretty decent place and ran a bit less than a hundred bucks. I expect the Days Inn Gold Coast south of it (and a bit closer to the main event) is probably about the same.
Take a peek at travelocity.com, deals are usually available there.
If I wear the ShinyPants[sup]TM[/sup] again you’re all going to start thinking I never change my clothes–which may actually be true. Nonetheless, I’ll consider it. 
Since I’ll be about broke for this fest, I’m debating between getting a room or just not sleeping and drinking instead. I certainly hope there are a few people willing to help me with the latter.
May I recommend the hotel we used in August? Cheap blowjobs offered over the phone at 3am if you wear a kilt! What was the name of that place? I’ve scrubbed my brain of it’s memory.
