Tomorrow morning at 5:15, I’ll be checking in at the Cleveland Clinic for heart surgery. I’ll be getting a new aortic valve, plus quadruple bypass. I’ll be in the OR about six hours, then in the hospital a week, then convalescing at home for several months. The worst part will be not being able to drive for 6-8 weeks.
The good news is that the Cleveland Clinic has the best Cardiovascular Department in the country, and my surgeon is the Head of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. So I’m in the best of hands.
The only strange thing is that I’m not feeling any fear of anxiety about the surgery . . . just looking forward to getting it behind me.
So anyway . . . I’m not taking my laptop to the hospital, so the next time you guys will hear from me will be about a week from now.
I hadn’t spotted that you were unwell. Very best wishes for a speedy recovery. And on the plus side, all that time convalescing means more time for reading the Dope.
Good luck on your surgery! See you in a week. (although, you may be asking your partner to bring the laptop if you get too bored with TV and hospital routine)
Wow, panache, that’s a big deal! Good luck, and please have someone give us an update ASAP so we know how it all went! A week of waiting will make us all insane, you know that!
Best wishes, there is no need to be nervous, as you don’t have any complicated tasks ahead of you except recovery. Remember to not sneeze, cough or laugh while your sternum is healing. Clutch your pillow tightly. Once you are out of ICU and in the cardiothoracic ward, walk as much as you can. All the pain killers will constipate you. Bummer, but you get over it.
