Country Music for Dummies (or, "recommend something")

Hey, that John Fogerty CD is available from iTunes and features a Jimmie Rodgers tune. [Downloading]

Off the top of my head, I think you’d enjoy the following:

[ul]
[li]Long Black Veil by Johnny Cash–it’s about a guy who gets executed for a murder he didn’t commit[/li][li]Van Lear Rose by Loretta Lynn–yes, she sounds like an old woman from the hills of eastern Kentucky. She IS an old woman from the hills of eastern Kentucky. Yes, she has an accent. So do you. Get over it.[/li][li]Jackson by Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash–just a fun, rollicking tune[/li][li]Actually, most of Loretta Lynn’s new album, Van Lear Rose. Fabulous album. Fabulous. [/li][li]The O Brother soundtrack–a lot of good music on that one, and a good place to try a lot of “flavors” of country[/li][li]The Cocaine Blues by Johnny Cash–rocky, bluesy murder ballad[/li][li]Fiona by Lyle Lovett–hard to describe, but very good[/li][li]Me and Opie by BR549–funny as hell[/li][/ul]

And if you like the hard-core fiddling in “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” you simply MUST listen to Allison Krauss. I do believe she kicks Charlie Daniels’s ass, takes his lunch money, and sends him running home crying for his momma.
