Well I have two related questions that I might as well put in the same thread.
First off, what are some of Waylon Jenning’s better albums.
And secondly, any other recommendations for the country genre? I’m looking for stuff that are getting played on Outlaw Country (a Sirius station). I guess Outlaw Country is a whole sub genre of country music.
I enjoy blues and rock so something with a little of those in it would be nice too.
David Allan Coe
Hank Williams III
Willie Nelson
Shooter Jennings
Merle Haggard
Hank Williams Jr.
The Highwaymen
Johnny Cash
Charlie Daniels Band
Johnny Paycheck
Kris Kristofferson
Townes Van Zandt

Lonesome, On’ry and Mean and Honky Tonk Heroes from Waylon Jennings. For Willie Nelson, look for Shotgun Willie and Red Headed Stranger. Also check out Old Five and Dimers Like Me from Billy Joe Shaver.
BR549 is pretty rocky. Also The Outlanders (or just Joe Ely or Jimmie Dale Gilmore solo).
I’ve been listening to Jace Everett. One of his songs is in the opening credits for HBO’s True Blood. Beware the maggots.
A great Outlaw Country album is Wanted! The Outlaws, with Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Tompall Glaser and Jesse Coulter.
The modern descendants of outlaw country would be people like Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle. Can’t go wrong with their stuff, either.
Thanks guys! I couldn’t think of any of them but now that I’m reading all their names, they are definitely stuff the station plays.
Guy Clark
Townes van Zandt
Rodney Crowell
If you want some country blues-style music with a really crunchy sound, check out some of Scott Biram’s stuff.
More for the blues/rock crossover, but check out “All the Roadrunning” by Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler.
Oooh, a chance to plug one of my favorite bands- Old Crow Medicine Show. They’ve got some blues and bluegrass influences, and I’d call them alt-country if I had to pick a genre. Awesome band.
