And why, exactly, should your town matter more (or less) to me (or anyone else here) than Nauru?
You can move from your small town without leaving your country. You had options. The people of Narau either have to stay on their birdshitless island or move to New Zealand (or maybe Aus). There is no bigger city or other industry to move to.
When your little town went belly up, you didn’t have to chose to leave your country or live in poverty. That is the reality for some people. Perhaps that might make you feel a tad more sympathetic.
Of course if you want to continue to feel that Bad Things are only bad if they happen in your neck of the woods I can’t stop you.
“Kind of sad” is hardly mourning it; I might say that if I thought something was unfortunate but not exactly something to lose sleep over. And the reference to Aesop? How the heck is that lamenting their plight? “Aesop’s fables” are a set of stories that have a moral to them, something to teach. As someone stated earlier in the thread, they were wealthiest when they had a pile of shit, and now that the shit’s gone, they’re poor. It’s also a good teaching tale in that one shouldn’t waste money, that their “Tomorrow will take care of itself” motto was unwise, and that now they’re left with a barren island and much worse off than they were before.
Just because you have the SDSAB tag doesn’t mean you’re a mod… Get off my case.
If I had my way, that tag wouldn’t be there. It only causes problems. I wasn’t trying to “junior mod” you.
At least you found a job.
I don’t get it. Someone says lamenting the fate of some little island thousands of miles away is a waste of time, then posts five times in a thread about that island.
For the record, I feel sorry for Nauru, and I’m moving on from there.

Boo frickin hoo! Nobody laments my small town (about 10,00 people) who had a THRIVING economy from 100 to 30 years ago… Now all the powerhouse businesses (Landis Grinders, Landis Threading Systems, Frick Air Conditiong, Grove Cranes, anybody heard of these? ) all these businesses are broken up, and undercut by Japenese competition.
Charity begins at home…
Hey, if it makes you feel any better, I don’t care about Narau or your crap-ass little town.
