Coup

So, tomorrow we find out that there’s beena bloodless coup in the states (Or your country of origin, or not in your country of origin, and in a close by one), how do you react?

Do the or policies effect your choice? If they were a “hands off localities” or very strict?

Scenario A: they’re enacting policies which agree, almost exactly or significantly more than the current administrations, with your own opinions. They are enforcing these with a very heavy hand, but crime is low. There have been an increase in the number of people sent to detention/prison facilities, but the majority are released in short order, and reform significantly with little complaints about their treatment. Some are permanently detained. None of hem are detained for dissent, but for crimes/actions/etc.

Scenario B: all the same, but they’re enacting policies which disagree wildly with your own.

Scenario C: they’re not effecting domestic policy at all, lowering taxes, but drastically cutting expenditures in the process – everything from education to interstates. Policy, taxation and laws are done almost entirely on a state level. Some exceptions, like activities which are inherently interstate, are still handled by the federal government, or organized oversight by the states under the auspices of the federal government.

What is your reaction?

I take to the streets along with everyone else, and don’t stop fighting until we string the bastards up. And no, whatever policies the criminals attempt to implement have no bearing on this whatsoever.

I think it will be impossible to do in my country (US.) Any government, legitimate or not, has to have some form of validation by the people.

GWB managed to do it for 6 years, thanks to crooked voting machines and 9/11, but it was a perfect storm of fear and corruption, but the people managed to rise up and take back control.

I keep quiet and go about my business as much as possible.

The last coup we had I thoroughly supported and still do, because they basically kicked out Al Capone.

(The military runs the place behind the scenes anyway and always have, ever since the June 24, 1932 coup that ended the absolute monarchy.)

My first notice of our new Temporary Overlords would likely be an early morning call from my secretary, asking if she can have the day off, what with the revolution and all.

I’ll sleepily grumble WTF? And she’ll tell me to turn on CNN. When I see the “Breaking News” screamers and so forth, at first I will be relieved. Good secretaries are worth their weight in gold-pressed latinum, and I’d hate to lose mine to insanity. As I become awake enough to process what appears to be happening, I’ll give her the day off, and likely call the main office to tell them my office will be closed due to violent insurrection, and myself and all staff will be taking administrative leave.

I will then lock and load, contact family members to do the same, and try to figure out what the hell is going on. A coup like that can’t happen without military support. There is no way the entire U.S. military is backing this thing, so the fireworks are going to be impressive. And possibly radioactive. Nuclear Civil War may be the scariest phrase in the English language, and that would be a strong possibility. We have nukes scattered around the world, including those on submarines.

I’d expect the states to mobilize their National Guard troops, and much tension between those troops and active duty troops at regular bases.

It it appears that Ragnarok is truly upon us, I’d expect my family to make some effort to rally together, possibly at my ancestral home, prepared to defend what is ours against all comers until we enter Valhalla.
