I’ve seen the first season a few times and have only caught random episodes here or there. I have absolutely no hope for the American version that’s coming to NBC soon. It’s not “Coupling” if it doesn’t have the guy who plays Jeff in the UK version.
Unfortunately, the second season won’t be released on DVD here until October 28th. (I’ve been waiting!)
I’ve heard there would be an American version. I don’t get it. The rest of the world gets our productions, so why can’t we just watch what other countries produce? I mean, if Coupling takes off in the U.S., then shouldn’t the original cast and crew get the glory (and the work)? And I know I’ll be thrown off by the American accents.
IIRC, the first few episodes of the NBC series will be exact remakes of the British series, with essentially the same scripts. It’s going to be odd seeing the new versions.
“Hey, buy this Seiko! It looks just like a Rolex!”*
One thing about the British series is that they seem to be a little more lax on censorship as far as language is concerned. Or maybe the synonyms they use in England are not considered as “bad” as their American counterparts.
And I agree with Grace about “Jeff”. The character is perfect.
[sub]* Not that I have anything against Seikos. They’re nice watches. I have four of them. But none of mine are meant to look like a Rolex.[/sub]
