I brought this book up in another thread, but it really goes here for discussion. Did anyone read it? If so, what did you think?
I read it, and really enjoyed it, and gave it four stars on Goodreads. A few weeks later, I went back and edited my review to five stars, because I just could not stop thinking about the book.
Pros:
- A likeable book about unlikeable people. Samuel is a self-centered asshole, no question about it, but this book had me wanting to know more about why and how to fix it. Greta is more enigmatic, but feels like a fully rounded-out character in the end.
- Not afraid to confront tough subjects, sometimes with humor and sometimes with pathos.
Cons:
- Some of the “extra” characters seem a little flat.
- Greta’s motivations seem to get kind of short shrift at the end.
What do you all think?
