I’ve always thought thst Tom Waits could do a killer cover versions of “Celluloid Heroes” by the Kinks.
Anybody else have any others you wish you could hear?

Tom Waits again, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”
Bob Dylan “Like a Virgin”
Keith
David Holmes to cover Roy Budd’s theme to Get Carter.
I always hoped that Chrissie Hynde, with or without the Pretenders, would do a cover of The Shocking Blue’s “Venus”. I was extremely put out when Bananarama covered it, thereby ensuring that no one with a shred of self-respect would touch it again.
Chrissie Hynde does an interesting cover of Live And Let Die.
Ray Charles - Bad, Bad Leroy Brown
Melissa Ethridge - Lovin’, Touchin’ Squeezin’
Paul McCartney - Imagine
Prince - 96 Tears
You remember Jean Stapleton as Edith Bunker singing the opening theme to All In The Familywith Carol O’Connor? Well, for years I’ve had this mental image of her–as Edith Bunker, mind you–singing Over The Rainbow.
Yeah…I’m desperately in need of therapy.
I’ve always thought that the Monkeys’ Stepping Stone would sound great if it were heavier. Maybe a Papa Roach cover?
I’ve always wanted to hear a like nasty hardcore band like Gwar or someone cover “My Heart Will Go On.” I’ve heard the punk cover, but this would be too sweet.
I have been waiting for a riot-grrrl band like Bratmobile to cover either “Boys Keep Swinging” or “Repitition” by David Bowie.
I always thought Tom could do a kick-ass version of “Emotion” by the Bee-Gees.
I also thought Lyle Lovitt could nail “kiss” by Prince.
The recently-disbanded Ben Folds Five would have done a great cover of ELO’s “Evil Woman”–the song that everyone thinks says “medieval woman” but doesn’t.
Brian and I came up with a huge list of wannabe covers once, but I can’t for the life of me remember any of them. Oh, well.
Sleater-Kinney: the Powerpuff Girls’ theme song
Low: “My Heart Will Go On”
Shonen Knife: “Oh, Yoko”
Yo La Tengo: “Dear Prudence”
You want heavy? Stepping Stone was covered by both the Sex Pistols and by Minor Threat. Check out the Minor Threat cover in particular if you want heavy.
“Joy to the World” by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir–the Three Dog Night version.
I want the Offspring or a likewise Punky and fun lovin’ band to cover The Times They are a Changin’, in triple time. I just got the essential Dylan yesterday, and realised that song still rings true for this Gen Yer.
Pee Wee Herman singing Bad to the Bone.
I wish that the morons on napster who have one tin soldier in a file named puff the magic dragon would realize they’re idiots. I have yet to find a Me First and the Gimme Gimmes cover of Puff.
I have their rendition of I Sing the Body Electric.
Here’s my dream covers:
Slayer’s A Horse With No Name
Metallica’s Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover (I can image Lars Ulrich playing Jeff Porcaro’s drum lines speed-metal style, hehehe)
Celine Dion’s Changes (yep, the Black Sabbath one)
Rockapella’s Nights In White Satin
I’m waiting for someone to cover “Purple Haze” and ennunciate the words correctly. Everybody who does slurs that one famous phrase.
