Covering sump pump channels with concrete...

Years ago, we had a guy come in and drill channels and a sump in our cellar. He was supposed to cover the channels over with concrete, but he screwed us. Apparently he vastly underestimated the job and by the time he’d laid down the pipes, filled in with gravel (big stones FWIW), and maybe put in the pump, he knew that doing the concreting would cost too much. So he made up some excuse for getting half the job, we did and he disappeared.

Anyway, we have a guy who’ll finish off the channels, taking out maybe 5" of the gravel and pouring in concrete. But he made no mention of first covering the gravel with something that’ll prevent the concrete from entering and perhaps clogging the piping that brings the water to the sump. Is this a legitimate concern on my part?

I’m taking my wife out to dinner in a minute, so if I seem slow to respond to your responses, that’s the reason.

Cover the gravel with sheet plastic and concrete away! Without the plastic sheet very little concrete penetrates into the gravel to stop up the drain holes.

Thanks, springears.

Damn!

It’s spingears, not what I typed.

Totally unintentional, and I apologize.
