Anytime someone walks through a movie studio they pass these. I’ve seen the scene in countless films. How far back does it go? Name the films. I’ll start:
Ed Wood (1994)

Don’t know how specific you want. Perils of Pauline (1947) has a movie studio scene but no spacemen or rolling backdrop.
That’s close enough, really. Just tracing the basic scene back. I think people liked seeing the “behind the scenes” scene. I’m sure there have been variations, but usually the extras (on the backlots and streets outside the soundstages) represent the major genres – westerns, science fiction, action films, musicals (back in the day), etc.
Blazing Saddles had an extended sequence with the characters running through the movie lot, but I don’t recall any spacemen in it (cowboys, of course, were a given).
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure has some of the stereotypical behind the scenes stuff at the climax of the movie. He runs through several active sets.
