Coworker bragging about drunk driving

Leaving the issue of if it should be illegal to drive while under the influence, your coworker knew he was not able to safely operate the car (running 2 lights), and that was directly related to him being drunk.

He was totally irresponsible in his action and should have chosen not to drive.

With freedom comes responsibility, if you are not responsible the state will take that freedom away and we all suffer the loss of freedom.

Juust wanted to add a “good job” to the OP.

This is the sort of bullshit that should be loudly and vociferously condemned in public, in front of other people. There were probably other people there who felt the same way you did, but who didn’t have the guts to speak up.

I’d like to add my support for the OP as well. My parents were rear-ended at a stoplight by a drunk driver, but luckily they weren’t seriously injured. It’s pretty scary - you could be just sitting at a stoplight and end up the victim of one of these morons. I have absolutely no sympathy for any idiot who makes the decision to drive under the influence.

Bragging and laughing about committing a crime is not appropriate in the workplace. Perhaps your HR department would be interested in that conversation.

And publicly making an ass out of yourself deserves a public reprimand. Don’t like it? Then STFU.

Wow, speeding is the number one killer of people who cannot legally drink. Huh. Imagine that. I’ll bet the number one killer of children under 13 is being a passenger in a vehicle that crashes. Should we point out the dangers of that behavior?

And it’s not like many drunk driving fatalities are due to alcohol itself, as in people passing out. It’s due to poor judgement and reflexes caused by the alcohol. Do you think many of the people who sped while drunk would have sped at such a speed if it wasn’t for the alcohol in their system?

I don’t think that you can’t simply lump all “wrong behaviour” together as being unworthy of lectures. Sure, over-eating is stupid, but it’s not dangerous to other people. It’s stupid, but drunk driving is both stupid and a threat to others. I get the feeling that people are much more concerned about that danger than the stupidity (and the potential harm to the drunk driver himself, although I’m sure that plays a role in many cases).

And it’s not just drunk driving, either. All dangerous people deserve to be lectured for their behaviour. Drunk driving is just one of the easier dangerous crimes to get away with.

:Rolleye: Let’s try that again.

“I don’t think that you can…” Not “can’t.”

Everyone is a potential killer.
