Kudos for “ineffectually polite”, a novel term of commendable creativity. Though it’s not clear if you’re referring to the villagers or the cows. If the cows, I would point out that gangs of young female bovine delinquents are going around vandalizing expensive cars. I don’t buy the excuse that they (the juvenile delinquents) are just big and clumsy. They know exactly what they’re doing. They have been emancipated, and they’re making the most of it. And the cowboys from the village of Saint-Tit – a name whose irony I need not dwell on – are powerless to stop them.
Goats are actually very picky eaters. They may pull your laundry off the line and poop on it but they won’t eat it.
With herd species, the rule for gathering up singles is “take the many to the one”. It’s a little counterintuitive, but it’s far easier to move twenty head to a lone animal and then move them all together than it is to try to convince a single to go in any given direction. You gather singles only when there’s no other choice.
Also, anywhere there are beef cattle there are cowboys. People love to be cowboys and need little excuse.
Well, I’d say they know their fabrics. I’ve seen a couple eating cotton and leaving the man-made fabrics behind. My friend and I had a good laugh over this because the damaged goods were old t-shirts belonging to her husband.
They’ll eat straw or raffia hats too …
I don’t hang washing out, I have one of those wooden racks for in the house, great for humidfying in the winter =)
I see them munching the wild lettuce, woad, mint and whatever the generic grass around here is. I really don’t mind, just the cow poop as a land mine in the dark =) The cows are actually very polite ladies, the goats are a bit friskier, very playful. Both sets of critters are very friendly.
Very true - and they also don’t eat tin cans - they actually nibble the paper labels off for the salt.
I found an old salt brick we had for the sheep - sour apple flavored. Had mrAru put it out where one of the outside security cameras can see it, so until it goes away that is my primary up camera =)
