About two dozen cows have been on the loose since August in rural Quebec. They got spooked by lightning, jumped a fence, and never returned to their owner’s fields. It’s been a problem trying to capture them; some are pregnant; some have given birth, “They had an all-you-can-eat buffet all summer,”
Here’s a good report - from AlJazeera, of all places:
Winter is coming, and it will be more challenging for them to find fodder. They can probably lure them into a fenced area with hay if they can locate them. We’re not talking about catching the road runner here. Cowboys are trained to do this kind of thing. It’s not that unusual for cows to escape for a while.
CBC reports that cowboys have been brought in to capture the fugitive cows. I didn’t even know Quebec had cowboys!
Here is a mugshot of one of the fugitives:
This is not the first time miscreant Quebec cows have been in the news. A few years ago, a gang of delinquent cows surrounded someone’s BMW and vandalized it. AFAIK, the cows were never arrested and brought to justice:
Also some years ago, and also in Quebec, 16 cows were cownapped from a farmer’s field. After an intensive cowhunt, they were found and suspects were arrested:

The video there is definitely worth watching. A fine example of early internet animated humor.
Interesting that they are trying to bring in all the cows at once. For heavens sake. Corral a few of them. Capture one at a time if necessary. Quit trying to make a game of it.
The only aspect of cows that I’m expert at is eating them.
But I understand they’re herd animals and perhaps it really works better to treat the group as a group, corner the leader first and the rest will follow, etc.
They are herd animals. But this is silly. Call the farmers who are having problems with them and ask for permission to go on their land, and ask for help to recapture the cows. I think that officials are making this much, much more difficult than it needs be.
My uncles neighbors were always happy to help, and receive his help in return.
I have my neighbor on speed dial, his cows and goats like to wander up to my yard and eat the weeds, I leave him a message and he or the kids wander up and fetch the wandering critters. We also get his chickens up here, but they sort of go back home when dusk hits.
