So the new patch for City of Heroes is out with the new mission editor.
I’m loving it. It’s easy, pretty thorough and gives you a lot of options. The only things I didn’t like about it was that you couldn’t pick exactly which powers to give the characters, that you can’t give them travel powers beyond flight, and that the twin pistols powerset is not available to the editor (some NPCs in the game have it).
I’m already making up an arc and it’s coming around very nicely.
Anybody else here played Issue 14?
I’ve dabbled, but I have an aversion to playing something when it’s brand new, so I’ve been keeping my distance. I did create one mission and I was pleased to see it work out so well. It’s got fantastic potential. The limitations are disappointing, but there’s honestly only so much the engine is really capable of, and it helps keep mission creation simple and easy to use.
I played with a Tanker Superteam on Thursday (lots of fun, but kinda weird), and we took on a mission arc made by one of the superteam members where we faced a lot of Fire demons. They were pretty rough, and it became clear that you really have to test your arcs with groups of different sizes before you know how it will play.
The person who made this arc had tested it alone, and the ally always survived with soloers, but when 8 of us tanks came in, the huge spawns of these fire demons overwhelmed the ally. We didn’t lose, but still it wasn’t cool that we had no chance at all to save the ally cause they died in like seconds, and we were still barely taking down the first few demons.
Its pretty cool though. I’m thinking of starting a character to play only MA arcs and got tons of tickets and try to find some good arcs that don’t utterly slaughter lower level players.
I’ve also got a Samurai themed MA arc that I worked on during Test that I’m going to make again soon. It was fun having sword fights in that arc, on my Katana scrapper. I made all my custom group minions use the rusted sword model for their katana which was pretty funny looking. I’m thinking I will try a sword + bow set next time, instead of having defenses that way the group can fight at short range or long range.
