Craiglist text message scam

For some reason, over the past week, I keep getting text messages from various area codes asking if I still have a king 11 PC Oak bedroom set available. They always have SCOTTSDALE in all caps.

My phone number is still a Phoenix area number, but I haven’t lived there in 15 months nor have I ever placed a craigslist ad.

What type of a scam is this. I’m ignoring the texts, I have unlimited texts, but they’re getting annoying. I don’t really want to have to change my number over this.

Have you checked Craigslist for ads for similar merchandise? It may not be a scam but instead that someone entered the wrong contact number in their listing.

Good idea - or try searching Google for your phone number to find it.

Could be innocent mistake - not sure why always has city in caps - could be part of Craigslist system when someone replies to ad.

There is someone in the Phoenix Craigslist selling a king size 11 piece oak bedroom set. I don’t want to link directly to it because it probably has your phone number in it, but you can find it very easily on Craigslist. There are two phone numbers listed, and I would guess one of them is inadvertently listed as yours, or maybe it’s a digit off or so.

Since the person has listed two numbers, maybe you could contact them via the other number, and ask them to fix their mistake.
