I have a question on this. Someone I know just insists that what the hospital did was illegal. Even though he’s a lawyer, he can’t cite specific case law, and says it violates some civil rights law somewhere (either state or federal). What I wanna know is, is that true? Were laws actually violated, moral outrage aside?
While in training we had a patient with a tatooed swastika on one arm. My Jewish colleague refused to treat him, and no one forced him to do so. While inducing the termination of our non-viable 1st child, who’s heart was still beating on US, it was mentioned to my wife and I that staffing could become an issue due to the unwillingness of some nurses to participate in that procedure. I did tell them later that their staffing difficulties did not really concern us, and didn’t need to be mentioned.
Only bleeding heart bureaucrats and attorneys would try to enforce their idealistic social policies on persons in duress. Of course, they wouldn’t let their murder confessions stand, but by all means, force them to accept persons they find objectionable when they are at their most vulnerable. People have the inalienable right to choose there health care providers, however arbitrary their criteria.
