That’s the most surreal thing about the video to me. It literally came out of nowhere. They’re just having what seems on the surface to be a casual, even polite, encounter and then WHAM, out comes the gun.
Really?
Wow. It’s stuff like this that makes me hate to kiss my husband goodbye and send him to work… Terrifying!
And yes, people will second-guess what the officer did, and whether he was justified in firing at the fleeing vehicle. If you ask me, though, the officer was completely correct. (There was a case in a nearby jurisdiction just a few weeks ago, where a suspect pulled a knife and stabbed an officer before being fatally shot by the officer. The family and friends of the “victim” have been holding rallies and protests ever since, because they think that the cop shouldn’t have shot their little angel of a brother/cousin/son/friend. Not enough rolleyes in the world, IMHO. The case was investigated by the state police, and the officer was cleared.)
Uh, yeah. Cursing, screaming, gunshots, dead guy lying in the street, brutalized cop bleeding and breathing hard, still trying to make sense of the fact that not only had he almost died, he’d just taken another life.
It was an emotional sort of thing.
There aren’t enough [del]Death[/del] Happy Camps in the world.
I guess I’m just jaded. When you’ve seen insurgent execution videos I guess it takes the punch out of videos like these.
I’ve seen execution videos like those you describe and I still feel emotionally for the officer as he sits down to comprehend what just occurred to him.
No doubt. That’s why I don’t watch those things. I’d rather not be jaded.
Somehow these links aren’t working for me. Are they still active?
ETA: Nevermind
I feel emotion for him.
But it’s several degrees away from tearing up over it. I’ve seen more emotionally intense videos of this kind on Police Chases Caught on Tape.
And yet, nobody in this thread has done so, (even the “usual suspects”, whoever the hell they are), the jury found the officer acted correctly, and I have seen no links to any comments by anyone who has said this, at any time.
I guess you could always find an idiot somewhere who might say this, but anyone viewing that video should come to the conclusion that the officer did the right thing.
Even if the suspect had turned out to be a choir boy (instead of a violent jerk with a previous record of violent assault), the officer would still have been in the right.
Does it make you feel better that I have also been known to tear up while watching Full House, orange juice commercials and Oprah?
Not “too much”, but “Plenty”.
No. I’m tearing up right now.
Don’t worry; I’m still a total badass.
Likewise.
Heh. I was wondering what the guy was thinking when he said that. Talk about giving away the information farm to the cop. You’re supposed to say “exactly two beers, officer, hours ago” or some such nonsense.
I highly doubt that anyone is questioning that. There were only 2 seconds between when the suspect fired, and when the cop fired.
Not to discuss the “usual suspects” further (oh, who am I kidding? I’m totally discussing them), but it never fails to shock me how many people honestly think the police are out to cheat them, brutalize them, or otherwise shove the boot of authority down their throats. I’m never sure whether they just live in places with famously corrupt police forces (one does recall a shocking thread about the DC cops and a car theft) or whether they just have real, serious personal problems. I really am surprised that one of them hasn’t shown up here, although the minute you mention them I guess they figure it’s embarrassing for the rest of us who look paranoid if they don’t show up.
Not only do I generally view many police this way, but I have several friends who are attempting to become police officers and I have no doubt they’ll be the same. Thankfully, they’re good friends.
