Crazy Ideas on what I should do with £7000?

Convert It into Rubles so j00 can feel like a MIllI0NAiR3!!!

Wow some excellent ideas and advise (and some hilarious ones i.e. MrTuffPaws, Eternal & MikeG). Ferris again thanks for your sound advise I will look into those sites and its looking the sure bet so far.

elfkin477 - has opened my eyes with regards to Cali, think I’ll cross that one off, cheers.

X~Slayer(ALE) - Would love to go to Hawaii but then what?

DMark - Although you make a very good point (or your sociology professor does), I would feel guilty if I went on a mission to find a rich girl, plus my pride would get in the way :).

I wanna try everything and be everyone, I may even try what MrTuffPaws suggested (or something similar, but was brought up a catholic so burnt into me to think it would be WRONG!) I have no boundaries but if you would imagine my current frame of mind being like Richard out of “The Beach”.

Thanks again all!!!

SEND IT TO ME! SEND IT TO ME!

Perhaps an overseas working holiday or put the lot on New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup. That’ll make for a few sleepless nights.

Can you really get a krispy kreme franchise for that much? Seems like a bargain to me. Buy one, wait a year or two, and ya got double your money.

Ale and whores.

Oh, you wanted crazy ideas …

Well Im gonna invest £3000 for a year and blow the rest on the USA, no pressure on finding my ideal gal and no pressure and never returning back to the UK. I figure I’m gonna get an open return flight to the cheapest airport and hire a car, the rest I will see what comes my way. I have 3 worries though:

  1. I stand out in my english clothing and look like a tourist.
  2. I will be taking for a ride by some american girl/man like on the movies.
  3. I get a job and settle somewhere then find I don’t really like America.

I’ve lived abroad before but only for a summer in spanish islands (i.e Ibiza) and Greek Islands (Crete - Malia) and never really though about family and friends back home (is that selfish?). I have already blown £4000 this year (as have £11000 when house is sold) so went to Costa Del Sol for a week, then Ibiza and worked for an extra week then a flight to Crete to bum in some friends apartments and the rest is on Clothes and going out. So I wont get homesick…yes my decision is made!

Go on ebay and spend it in a week. You could be the all time high bidder on a lot of really crazy things.

NightUK, I’d suggest you research the visa requirements for the US very carefully. We don’t have the two-year working holiday visa arrangement here, and US immigration officials are notorious for giving younger long-term travelers a hard time. In particular, make sure you’ve documented the fact that you have enough money to support yourself without working, and try to sound as if you have plans to leave the US eventually.

I second Fretful who commented on visas in the US. You can’t just turn up and get a job. You also can’t get an appartment, car, insurance etc. without a social security number (unless you are inclined to become an illegal immigrant which is wouldn’t recommend)

Trust me, I got deported from the US for trying somthing similar to this (although in my defence my circumstances were very different). I wouldn’t wish an INS grilling on my worst enemy :frowning:

OK Fretful & Sirtonyh, now ya scaring me. I’m looking into the visa requirements now so if I fail these, I’m right back where I started.

:frowning:

Getting into the US legally basically boils down to;

  1. Having a job offer from a US company where they can prove that there is no current US citizen able to the job. At the moment this is fairly difficult to achieve unless you are in a fairly specialist field.
  2. Going as a student
  3. Having a lot of money (about $500,000 to buy a green card)
  4. Getting a transfer from your current company.
  5. Getting married to a US citizen

Didn’t see this the first time, can’t resist responding to it.

Wow, different strokes for different folks, I guess, but I can’t imagine ever regretting a penny spent on travel. If you spend money on things, they wear out or become obsolete in a few years. If you spend it on experiences, you have the memories forever.

Think of it as the same sort of thing as spending money on your education – you may not have anything “tangible” to show for it, but it widens your horizons and fundamentally changes your sense of who you are and what you can do with your life. (Then again, maybe you regret that student loan debt, so perhaps that’s not the best example. On the other hand, a year of traveling on the cheap costs a hell of a lot less than a year at a private university.)

You could always come over on a tourist visa and if you like the U.S. you can get a green card. Go to the U.S…then hit Canada…then Oz and NZ.
Been to them all and I really liked Oz…Surfers in Queensland is great.

Here’s one Californian who disagrees. I’ve been lived in the north and south end and some more throughouts. Yes there are superficial places and people, but not much moreso than other places. LA’s worse for the superficial thing, but even that’s not so bad, and it’s a very small percentage of California.

I always found in travels as a younger man that people (especially the opposite sex) love accents and foreign looks. Kinda sets you apart from their standard potential suitors.

One thing to note: Seeing as you spent £4000 in a couple weeks recently, don’t be surprised to find your £7000 disappears in a very short time. You might want to plan to find some part time jobs in your travels, and plan to stay in Hostels if you’re planning to make this last a while.

Great fortune in your travels!

Cheers all!

Chappachula it’s hard t explain why I wanna leave. I still love the UK but want a change in lifestyle, too many ghosts in the closet here aswell. People think I’m running away from something, maybe I am, but for some reason it feels right. I think I will take a holiday of there first to make sure it’s what I want.
