For close to 20 years now we’ve bet a $20 fun bet on the Oklahoma - Texas game. The agreement is simple; we use the line from the USAToday on the Friday before the game.
Oklahoma won the game, but didn’t cover the spread so I owe him $20.00.
One of the joys has always been sending it in new an creative ways.
for example; one year the loser sent to the winner…
the money divided as $5.00 ‘gifts’ to his wife and kids
cut into pieces and mailed individually
in a tiny little baggie with white powder (during the anthrax scare)
covered in duct tape
folded into origami that the winner didn’t already know, and then heat laminated (we both have done dollar bill origami).
When we lived closer together it was paid in pennies.
You get the idea.
So, I’m looking for creative ways to send him the $$ but I don’t want it to cost more than the bet.
Oh, I just remembered one more; one that unexpectedly turned into a gold mine was when the bet was paid by check. Anytime we get together the check comes out and is shown to all interested parties. Much shit giving ensues.
cough You could make a $20 donation in cash to the Oklahoma scholarship department. If you ask for a receipt and give his name, he could possibly claim it on his taxes for a deduction.
$20 is only about 630 baht at today’s exchange rate.
I think, more creatively, use dollars from a currency that is also called “dollar”.
The Hong Kong dollar for example - worth about 12c each. Send him HK$20, worth about $2.60, with a note saying “you didn’t specify which kind of dollar” (but make the remainer up in a second mailing, so you don’t dishonor the bet and look like a cheapskate).
Thanks, I was really just pulling a number and currency out of the air, I’m pretty sure there are some out there with unreal exchange rates. >1000/1
Another thought I had was to get 20 of the dollar coins and cast them into a paperweight, but a little quick research revealed that the cost of the casting resin is prohibitive.
Another thought would be to glue the coins to a board and then apply enough coats of polyurethane to it to make a nice plaque. Or even a crisp new 20, but I don’t know that it could be recovered to be spent.
